The book we’ve chosen is Gateway to the Moon, by Mary Morris. This highly acclaimed novel follows two stories; one of Miquel Torres, a Christian teenager from a small town of New Mexico and another of his ancestor from Spain, Luis de Torre. In the present, Miquel takes a babysitting job for a transplanted woman from New York only to discover that many of her Jewish customs and rituals are similar to his family’s. Five centuries earlier, we follow Luis’ escape from Spain during the Spanish Inquisition in the 15th century. Through these narratives we discover today's connection to the past. The book is readily available from all of the local libraries as well as online. You may also want to read our next selection, Master of Ceremonies, A Memoir by Joel Grey.
